This PLUS Tutorial is filled with Loads of Fan Loving Fun
We have a new PLUS Tutorial written by Von Glitschka (view his tutorial site IllustratorClass.com or his main hub Glitschka.com), and is titled "How to Create a Sci-Fi Fan Art Illustration."
Suffice it to say I am a geek and enjoy sci-fi. This tutorial touches on my admiration of all things Star Trek. Specifically, I enjoy the Ferengi characters in the Star Trek universe. I find their back story and ethics humorous. My favorite character is Quark from “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” TV series. This illustration is Fan Art. It was created for no other reason except that I’m a fan of this particular science fiction TV show.
This PLUS tutorial takes you through the entire creative process for developing and creating this Ferengi fan art. The final image is shown below. Members can Log in and Download! Otherwise, Join Now!

This is a High Quality, Professional, and Detailed Tutorial
This illustrative design tutorial will walk you through the creation of a symmetric illustration, how to approach the creative task of illustrating sci-fi fan art and other general methods for refining your overall creative process.

Download this Illustration as Unique iPhone Wallpaper
The only thing other then geeky sci-fi I get more excited about is Apple products. So naturally I have to make a wallpaper design using my new fan art. You can download here.

Download the Mac OSX Widget
I always look for ways to put my art to use. I had noticed before hand that a developer had made a widget based around the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition so I approach him about using my art on his newest update and he agreed. You can download the Ferengi widget here.

Von, you’re a whiz with the Pen Tool. I like it!
Also, do you have a Wacom tablet? I just got the Intuos 3 11×6 to hopefully improve and speed up my drawing. (not that it’s bad now but there’s always room for improvement.)
Sweet vector
Thanks Jonathan.
Believe it or not I still like using my trusty wireless mouse. (Microsoftstool Mouse, my one and only MS product) I’ve used a Wacom and eventually want to move over to that but just haven’t had time to figure out what I want. I know I don’t like the “Cintiq” because my hand gets in the way of seeing the cursor and eventhough you can offset the cursor that just causes all kinds of wonky navigation issues.
I do like the non-draw-on-screen versions though.
Using “Xtreme Path” plugin for Ai by CValley Software makes creating vectors so much easier than even Ai own editing tools so I highly recommend it to speed up build times and create more precision vectors in a nice intuitive and fluid manner.
Von
Hi Vonster
Great job, but not so many new techniques. Mostly a reminder that the old-fashioned pencil drawing is still the most essential part of the creative process.
Regarding the tablet I can definitely recommend buying the Intuos 3. With at steady hand like yours you would surely speed up the vector work dramatically compared to working with a mouse.
cool man.
Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks
