This is a High Quality and Professional Tutorial written with Detail and Personality

“By illustrating a map in this tutorial, we’re going to give the final product personality, flair, a bit of life – we’re going to hope that the user is drawn into it, attracted to it and once we have their attention – that they can use it. In producing this map we’re not only illustrating, but also designing information graphics; finding that age-old balance between form and function.”

@Łukasz – I hope you enjoy the tut (and the many other resources available through PLUS membership!). The source files are available in AI CS3 and EPS for versions as early as Illustrator 10.

This really should be sufficient for anyone wanting to work with PLUS tuts.

Looks like a great tutorial! I had to do something very similar for a client a while ago and it was a complete nightmare :P I wish I had this tutorial then lol.

  • Chethan

This looks like an amazing tutorial, if

There was a similar tutorial in a recent web roundup but it wasn’t as elaborate:

    Thanx Chetan,

I’m the author of the Computer Arts tutorial you linked to, it’s pretty hard sometimes to include all the information as you need to work to the magazine template (a specified number of steps and word count must be adhered to).

Did this tut use the perspective grid?

I tried subscribing, but PayPal (as usual) hasn’t sent through my subscription. I will be very upset if my bank account gets charged, but I can’t access the Plus section of this site. I already have a login (from trying to pay for the subscription), but it doesn’t show that I’ve paid for anything. LAME!

@Magnus – You can get assistance through our help desk support http://envato.helpserve.com/ thx.

@Armando – Access to the PLUS tutorials is only available through PLUS memberships.

PayPal now requires you to store your account information with them? You can’t purchase a subscription unless you authorize PayPal to keep all of your account information (name, address, credit card number, etc.) (I don’t think so. Find another payment alternative, and I’ll consider joining.

@Mark Mayers – I saw your tutorial on Computer Arts after Chethan posted the link; great article! I have a thing for work which blends graphic design and illustration.

Our tutorials share some techniques (of course) but the approaches and the final products are suitably different. The two together give a very comprehensive overview of creating cartographic illustrations.

    Thanks Ian,

It’s a hard thing to get the balance right on infographics, usually the client makes a last minite change and messes it up ;)

    Cheers
    Mark
