Vectortuts+ Welcomes New Editor, Kate McInnes & Associate Editor, Sharon Milne

There’s been a bit of a switch-around here at Vectortuts+, and as those of you following us on Facebook may already know, we have a new editing team! Today we’re proud to announce that Kate McInnes is now Editor of Vectortuts+ and Sharon Milne has joined as Associate Editor. With over 20 years of combined vector knowledge, the site is definitely in good hands. So how well do you know the Vectortuts+ editing team? Find out at the jump!

Of course, Vectortuts+ wouldn’t be half the site it is today without our amazing writers, their passion for vector is an inspiration

Just over a month ago, long-time editor, Sean Hodge, left the Vectortuts+ team to focus on his role as the Editor of FreelanceSwitch. Having been the Associate Editor of Vectortuts+ for the past two and a half years, I’ve now taken the role as site Editor. I have some pretty big shoes to fill, especially since Sean has been running the site for as long as I can remember. Sean has worked tirelessly to make Vectortuts+ what it is today, and I feel very privileged to have such a fantastic site to work with.

Of course, Vectortuts+ wouldn’t be half the site it is today without our amazing writers, their passion for vector is an inspiration, not only for the Tuts+ readers, but the entire vector community. With this in mind, we’ve chosen Sharon Milne as our new Associate Editor. Sharon has been a regular contributor to Vectortuts+ since 2010, and I haven’t met many people as dedicated to vector as she is. If you’re familiar with her work you would know that she uses 100% vector, even if that means long hours inventing new techniques.

So, please join me in welcoming Sharon, and wishing Sean the best of luck over at FreelanceSwitch!

  • She’s a big animal lover and lives with three pets, one Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Shelley (pictured) and two cats, Sameria and Harley Quinn. All names have geeky origins (Sheldon Cooper, Warcraft, Batman respectively).
  • She is unashamed of her poor taste in music, as she listens to anything and everything!
  • She started freelancing full time, thanks to Vectortuts+ interviewing her!
  • She can’t sing, but can’t help subjecting people to her vocal stylings while playing Rockband!
  • She’s currently working on a book for Adobe, after previously writing tutorials for their Adobe Illustrator blog.

I honestly can’t think of two more capable and talented people for the task. If you both keep doing what you do, the site’s sure to sore even higher. :-)

ps: I was wondering what happened to Sean. Great to see he’s still a part of the Envato family.

      • http://chewedkandi.net Sharon Milne

Sean is still around in Envato, he’s focused more on FreelanceSwitch — he’s been doing such an awesome job, they need more of his time there!

  • http://freelanceswitch.com/ Sean Hodge

    Hey everybody,

Yah, I’ll still be editing FreelanceSwitch and working full time at Envato. I’ll be handling some behind the scenes Tuts+ business type stuff as well.

It was a great four years running Vectortuts+. It was awesome working with the community and writers that are so talented. Thanks everyone for making this site such a success.

It’s a good feeling to leave the site in such capable hands with Kate and Sharon. They are ridiculously talented.

I’m excited to continue to visit Vectortuts+ as a fan. Thanks everyone.

Congratulations! I’ve only recently started learning Illustrator, but whenever I see either of your names on a tutorial I know that it is going to be challenging, yet easy to follow. I have seen tremendous improvement in my skills in the last two months and both of your tutorials allow me to produce great results that I can be proud of. Hopefully you’ll still have time for tutorials for us little people!

Yes! I’ll be creating some typography quick tips once I’ve settled in as editor and Sharon is still writing tutorials too :)

Also, if you’re a premium member, I have 15 part course on icon design that will publish soon (about 4 hours of video lessons)

I love writing tutorials too much to stop!

    Congratz ladies.

In my quest to develop better and more amenable digital illustration of organic chemical formulae, I acquired an Adobe suite CS4 and became a devotee of Adobe Illustrator and vector graphics. The acquisition and detailed perusal of several textbooks gave me a grounding on the operational manipulations available to me but I seemed to be permanently on the ground, so to speak. And then, I found Vectortuts+ tutorials and began to fly a little and the names Kate and Sharon became synonymous with very good flying instruction. The geographic diversity of the contributors added a certain piquancy to the presentations as I glided just above the ground looking for more of those invaluable thermals that will ultimately lift me to the dizzying height of proficient.
While I ponder conundrums such as how to pronounce Iaroslav, I find an ever increasing number of thermals tagged CS5 and CS6 and I wonder if my aircraft is no longer up to it, has the dreaded “O” word rendered my dreams unattainable?
Must think positively, onwards, upwards, will get there!
    Congratulations and good luck ladies,

    Mike

    Hi, Kate,

    Greetings from Benny.

You grow your own vegetables?! That’s awesome!

Hi Benny! Yes, I grow my own vegetables. I have even written about my garden for Vectortuts+ http://vector.tutsplus.com/articles/community-project/community-project-blog-action-day-wallpaper/

It’s the start of Spring for me, so I have tomato, eggplant and peppers all growing in small pots on my windowsill. The weather is still a bit cold on some days, so I have to make them a hot water bottle to keep the soil warm. It’s very cute and I can’t wait for the summer when it’s harvest time.

All up I’ll be growing corn, potato, pumpkin, garlic, strawberries, loganberries, watermelon, zucchini, squash, carrots, eggplant, radish, spinach, chard, Italian tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, beans, Asian greens, lettuce, and too many herbs to list. Someday I want to keep my own bees so I can make honey.

      • Ben

That’s a nice article and nice photography!

You have grown so many vegetables. I think it’s a green and fresh way of life.

Maybe someday you could open a vegetable farm, and I’ll be your first customer. LOL
