Which Tuts+ Site Should We Launch Next?

We’re planning our next few Tuts+ sites, and would love your opinion and advice on which topics you think we should cover next! We’d be really grateful if you could take a minute to answer our quick poll and share your thoughts…

Have Your Say

We’ve been considering lots of different ideas for our next Tuts+ sites over the past few weeks, and wanted to also ask the opinion of our awesome community!

A selection of different concepts are included in the poll to the right, along with the option for you to submit your own ideas as well.

The important thing to note is that these are just ideas. Some of these are close to making our final cut, and others aren’t… We’d love to hear what you think, to help guide our decision.

Thanks for taking the time to offer your suggestion — I can’t wait to see what you have to say!

Win a 6-Month Tuts+ Premium Membership

Our poll will be running for the next couple of weeks, and we’ll be choosing one respondent at random to receive a six-month Tuts+ Premium membership!

To be entered into the giveaway, just leave a comment on this post to go into a bit more detail about your site suggestion. We’ll choose one comment at random to win the Tuts+ Premium membership when the poll ends.

Best of luck!

Mac or game dev tuts would be terrific.

  • antonio

    Typographytuts is my choice.

I want to learn more about typography.

    • http://www.rohicks.com Ryan O. Hicks

      type or business

      • Melissa

I agree, business. By the way, you’re cute.

    • Danny

      agree, typographytuts

  • Adham

How about a site that deals with Desktop Publishing (DTPubtuts+). A site that would go into details about DTP, whether it is for print or web.

  • http://phoenixflamemedia.com Jonathan

I’d like to see a VidTuts site. Talking about the whole process of production, using cameras, lighting, audio for video, location scouting, creating forms and wavers, getting permission to shoot in public places, importing, color correction, compositing, finishing and output to BluRay or DVD and the web.

I would also like to see it cover things like interactive video performance with apps like VDMX, and the equipment and tricks that can go with it. This would even cover Projection Mapping (a few tuts on MadMapper would be fun).

  • http://laranzjoe.blogspot.com lawrence77

    i voted ‘others’

dotnettuts+ which cover every bit of the dotnet framework, sqlserver, ado.net, wcf, wpf, silverlight, etc.,
cmstuts+ which cover every cms from wordpress, drupal, joomla, dotnetblogengine, dotnetnuke etc., :D

where is Herbtuts+ in options :D

Game development is getting a lot of attention lately. Everyone is trying to figure out how to create the next Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies, Cut the Rope, etc.

Having a NetTuts website dedicated to game development would make things a lot easier.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Harald

I’ve just voted for Moneytuts. Creative tutorials on raising money in these times of crisis.

  • Daan Nijkamp

    Social developer tuts
All about google+, Facebook apps. Twitter api…

  • eduardo

I recommend InDesign Tuts…They are covered here but need more…which can also cover all aspects of printing as well.

  • chr1s89

gamedevtuts+ would be nice to go into detail on several game frameworks/engines! It can be combined with some mathematics tuts needed for the background of game techniques (e.g. vector calculation). That all can be shown by creating step by step some (small) games.

  • Ivan

    Infographictuts+

  • Cinzia

    I’d like a mathtuts+ because I love maths ;)

  • Jaap

Nodejstuts+ => wanna know what all the fuss is about!

  • http://www.rebeccavalerio.com Rebecca

I chose Freelancetuts+ although now that I’ve seen the typographytuts+ comment I kind of wish I’d chosen that.

  • http://www.perplexitypictures.com George V.K.

I would love to see Filmtuts+ come to life. There are a few resources out there that provide information and tutotrials on running your own production company and shooting a film etc, but none are at the quality level as the Tuts+ network. I believe it would also be a great place to combine all the great skills that people are able culminate from the other Tuts+ websites.

  • andy

    gamedev please!!

  • http://inaboxdesign.dk Maria

I think the productivity tuts and freelance tuts could easily be connected into one. I’d love to read that!

  • Arkelao

Or maybe musetuts, because of the new Adobe program Muse.

  • http://Www.alexvidal.info Avidal

I second indesigntuts+ although they are already covered in vectortuts, indesign and print work could benefit from a lot ore coverage.

Typography tuts would be awesome too!

Thanks a lot for all your hard work.

  • http://www.parasuniversal.com Parasuniversal.com

As a freelancers I went for the freelance tuts. I love the tuts I already follow so I’d definitely love to see your take on the freelance side. If I could choose top 3 it would be freelance, finance and gamedev.

  • Albert Yu

Rubytuts or Pythontuts, most interesting in these subjects, I’ll choose ruby for the first priority. And Mathtuts? hmm…it’s good too, because i’m not very good at math…

  • James

    Freelancetuts is my winner.

Would be great to find quality advice and suggestions on how to get started as a freelancer.

  • Kandeel

    Businesstuts+

  • http://www.davebritzius.com Dave Britzius

Although the poll only allows for one selection, I would like to see both a Freelancetuts site and a Writingtuts site.
Freelance because that is where the future is and to survive, we need to better hone our skills on how to crack this market.
Writing skills are necessary to market oneself – either by explanatory articles, tuts and white-papers, or by simply writing blog content that people want to read. Again, a tool for survival.

  • Kirsten

Typographytuts+ maybe some Indesign could be covered there as well as on Vectortuts+

  • Mark

Businesstuts+, money is a necessary evil in life. With out an income you’re out in the cold, literally, with no way to practice what you love. If you’re an employee, business knowledge is crucial to keep your future options open on all fronts. It’s 50/50, you can be great at your discipline and suck at business and for many that equals miserable.

  • JanDirk

    DesignTheorytuts+

It would be so awesome to know how to work with negative space, type, colors and more! Every graphic designer needs the core principles of design.

  • Catalin

    Freelancetuts+

I would love too see some good advices there.

  • http://www.donavanjones.uphero.com Donavan jones

I vote for business tuts. I think this would be cool to see how to start up a new business. You can talk about how to startup, how to market your site, how to use social media, and how to use offline marketing.

  • http://www.csshtml.co Gautam Lakum

I prefer freelance and business sites. coz want to be an entrepreneur some day soon!

  • http://www.behance.net/entelluz Pavel

    Gamedevtuts!

  • spencer mitton

Freelance tuts is probably the best. So many people from the psd.tuts and vector.tuts sites are beginning designers and freelancers. They would all enjoy having a freelance tuts site as well

  • bailey

    other… anything app-related, or video tuts :)

  • nikolas

Ok, you got vector tutorials and web tuts also. But what about the drawing itself?? Maybe you should launch next tuts+ site about how to draw/hot to sketch? A site about THE WAY HOW to be a designer, not what to do when you already IS designer:)

  • Larry

Type tuts and writing tuts can be in the same category i hope, and i would like both.

  • edward

    i love crafts!

  • http://www.amirhameed.com/ Amir Hameed

i think next Tuts should be creative writing or content writing.

  • http://www.mehmetbolak.com Mehmet Bolak

Definitely Business, most of us learn awesome techniques on the envato network, now teach us how to run our own start-ups and you’ve done wonders.

  • m.e.s.

We’re a bunch of writers, designers, and developers. Healthtuts+? That’s poor form, gentleman. Several of the options aren’t very relevant to envato’s target market, meaning that the more general you make it, the more you’re selling out.
    -freelance
    -writing
    -game dev
    -business (maybe…)
Those are the three (and a half) that I’d like to see. The rest are just out of place. I mean crafttuts? Really? Let’s go from jquery and vector graphics to…Popsicle sticks. The great thing about the envato network is that everything ties in real nice:
You learn design and illustration techniques from vectortuts, photo manipulation and web design from psdtuts, coding languages and techniques from nettuts, aaaaand you can build a website! That’s relevant to the future of the design and developer world. Just saying.

    • http://bucketothought.com/loungekat/blog/ Kate McInnes

Craft tuts wouldn’t be grandma craft, I think it would be more like Instructables. How to craft awesome things with your hands. ;)

  • OllieJDesign

InDesign Tuts. It’s one of the primary Creative Suite programs that doesn’t have a dedicated site. And let’s be honest, some of the ideas you listed are just reinventing a wheel and are completely unnecessary.

Crafttuts+? I don’t even know what the focus of that site would be.

Healthtuts+? Don’t we already have WebMD to exacerbate our hypochondria?

Mathtuts+? Seriously? What kind of math would this even cover? Algebra? Calculus? Trigonometry?

Gamedevtuts+? Could be interesting though I’ve no need for it.

Financetuts+? This is something that should really be left to the experts as finances largely depend on where you live, what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. Not everyone’s financial situation is going to be the same and information needs to be tailored to the individual(s) involved.

Freelancetuts+? Isn’t this what FreelanceSwitch is for?

Sciencetuts+? This is why we have Discovery Channel

Fashiontuts+? To whom are you trying to appeal with this one? There are thousands of sites dedicated to fashion. Leave it to the fashionistas and those who DVR Project Runway & America’s Next Top Model.

Writingtuts+? If it’s just going to be a bunch of creative writing nonsense, don’t bother. But if it’s going to focus on proper grammar usage, sentence construction and MLA documentation, go for it.

Productivitytuts+? No thanks. We already have the Action Method by Behance and there are literally thousands of articles written about increasing productivity.

Techtuts+? Depends on what the content will be.

Mactuts+? Sure cause we need another site catering to the Apple demo.

Businesstuts+? Again, isn’t this what FreelanceSwitch is for?

Can you just make InDesign Tuts+ already and cover topics such as: setting up different documents, pages and folds, margins, column & gutter width, setting up documents for CMYK printing + spot colors. And with InDesign’s new ability to create interactive documents, the whole spectrum of material opens up from traditional print publishing to digital.

It’s a no-brainer and it’s quite frustrating that you would even consider those other tuts sites before InDesign.

  • Arno Hattingh

I think freelancetuts would be great. Most designers struggle to start off as freelancers.

  • Brian

Business is good but the way the economy is heading Freelance seems like a better direction.

  • http://johnwriston.com John Wriston

I suggested a Drawingtuts+ site. A site featuring drawing or traditional art in general would be quite helpful to me and no doubt very popular. There are a few sites out there that offer traditional art tutorials, but none with the consistency and quality that the tuts+ family reflects.

  • auldAlbert

PrePressTuts – everything to do with Design, Type, Page Layout before it goes to Press. Also “how to send to Print”, which will cover PDFs, Digital and Litho.
(The expression “gone to bed” comes from the Composing Room meaning its on the bed on the Press.)

  • http://mobilenova.wordpress.com NovaG

I said techtuts, but socialtuts could be good also how to get the most out of the changing digital climate

  • Miguel

I suggested a Drawingtuts+ site with techniques and tuts to produce better and improve draws. Or a Gamedevtuts+. Continue your awesome work envato

  • muy

    Mactuts+ or writingtuts+

  • http://kishkoosh.com Ron

InDesignTuts+ definitely. And from reading comments on Vectortuts+ you can see that menu people would like that.

  • Matt

I’d love a TypographyTuts site… It’s a bit less technical, I suppose, but more typographic awareness and assistance would be a HUGE boost to the design community.

  • http://www.tribalcatering.cc michal

    techtuts!
