That's interesting, I haven't really used 3D authoring software so I didn't know they were like that. I've created some 3D objects in Illustrator, but that's about it.

Glad you enjoyed my illustration and the tutorial :)

I want to tell one thing ie it's just not a vector illustration but it reminds me like the use of zbrush or mudbox, when we use paint tool to paint the 3d figure. simply awesome work Emily.

If I put the eyebrows underneath, it's not as easy to see the expressions; especially at webcomic size, so I usually put them on top.

They can go underneath, you just have to cut the path for the detail on the eyebrows to make it work properly. Or have a separate live paint group for the skin underneath.

Thank you.

I do trace manually, to an extent. Live Trace works decently for high contrast line art drawings, but I prefer redrawing. Even if you use Live Trace, chances are you'll need to edit the paths anyway.

For something that needs more delicate attention, or if you don't plan to ink traditionally, my method works very well.

You can get some fillable paths depending on the way that you draw, but fully closed paths aren't something I tend to have a lot of in my line work. You can expand your live paint group when you finish colouring, to have filled paths. I tend to only do that when I'm absolutely sure I won't want to edit the colours. the result is similar to the way I would get closed paths via my old method (see the PDF tutorial I linked).

And I'm not sure what you'd like me to see in that image, it's not loading for me.

I'm glad to hear you found the techniques useful, all the same.

Your illustration look great, maybe I'll use your technique for my future art. I usually use manual trace, most of the time it will create a lot of closed path

this is my screen shot of my illustrator
