Very nice tutorial. Very detailed. It took me awhile to finish it, but I'm pretty satisfied with the results and really feel like I learned a few things. This was just the practice I needed.

3D is a possible alternative indeed; so much so that someone has done a tut on that too. I recall that I followed a 3D poker chip tutorial on AIburn; their method calls for the Revolve effect and symbols.

Glad you figured it out. As I re-read through that part, I probably could have made that more clear. Good luck with the rest of it and if you have any questions email me at: mark_r_berggren@mac.com

Ok...so I figured it out. Once I hit the divide tool on the pathfinder, take the selection tool and literally delete the portions of the chips you do not want. That will get rid of the extra stuff. Sorry for the double post, but I figured it out and thought I would help out the others that had this problem. You guys rock!

Not to seem like a total newb here, but I too am having a problem with getting the image to divide the way you have it here. I have tried a couple of different options and still no where near what you have in the tutorial. Every time I hit the divide option on the pathfinder tool, instead of making the boxes with curves I get two circles and six boxes. Its like there is literally nothing happening other than making the images group together. Perhaps I have a setting not right or something?

Otherwise, awesome tut! I hope I can get it finished though :)
