I've understood why, it's becoz when you select the inside of the shape, it is defining the command as like you want the whole shape. Try selecting the edges whichever side you want. It's working perfectly.

One thing I do not understand is how you were able to strictly add only horizontal lines/only vertical lines.

When I click inside of the shape, the Mesh tool automatically creates both horizontal and vertical lines. Any ideas?

Very nice.

One thing I noticed when I got into trouble in step 25: Preference setting must NOT be turned on: Object Selection by Path only, like I have always on.
This is an old habit of mine to have Illustrator select by path only, since this was the default setting in Illustrator from version 1 up to 8 or so.

Great tutorial!
i have used the mesh tool before - its brill!
But I am having a problem and I think it is the result of some setting in illustrator.
Basically, the mesh tool isn't working at all! When I select a colour from the image, nothing happens.
I never had this problem before and need a solution soon as I am working on my FYP for college.
If anyone knows why this might be happening, i'd be grateful for any advice!

Once again, thank you for such a great tutorial!
