I love this tutorial. However, I cannot get the mesh to work properly on the base shape. When I add a mesh line it tries to predict the concavity and the lines swoop outside the bounds of the shape. No matter how I drag the handles or modify the points the lines swoop outside or are unconrtollable. Yours are nice and straight. The only way that I could emulate this was to create a square object with a mesh and use the base object to create a clipping mask. Am I missing a setting somewhere or something? I'm using illustrator 10, but others have noted similar problems on irregular shapes as well.
