Quick Tip: Make an Escher-esque Metamorphosis with the Blend Tool

Tutorial Details
  • Program: Illustrator CS and above
  • Difficulty: Intermediate
  • Length: 2:50 min

After looking through some drawings by M.C. Escher, I wondered if I could create the effect with Illustrator’s Blend tool. The results were mixed, but it’s still fun to morph with Blends. Find out more in the following Quick Tip Video Tutorial.

I really like these sorts of experiments – although with varying levels of success, it’s still a great study – awesome work Cheryl.

I’d be tempted to do the centre row from the Escher piece and then take them 3-4 steps upwards and downwards to the bird and fish to get a more even blend. Of course the fish/bird final steps would need to be a complete row and you’d just delete the excess shapes. This might be another half result and might take the fun out of keeping it to just one bird and one fish and a blend inbetween!

Definately one to think about :D
