Adobe Illustrator isn’t the only vector game in town. In fact, you have the power of vector art on the go with Adobe Ideas, the drawing app for Apple’s iPad. In this video Ryan shows us how to take a quick little doodle in Ideas, and add a little more love in Adobe Illustrator. You’ll only need to know pen tool for this one, plus having an iPad would be helpful.

From what I can see, Adobe Ideas is NOT free on the App store, it’s $9.99.

I could be wrong, but adccording to the App Store, Adobe Ideas is not free.

Why is Adobe Ideas always advertised as free when it is $9.99 in the App Store?

Hey guys, so odd. I thought I had scooped it up for free, and they made people pay for layers, now layers are included and the app is $10.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    • Quentin

No harm no foul, but I think we can all agree that this app is NOT worth $10. Photoshop Express for iPhone is free and just as powerful (and arguably more useful), so unless there’s some hidden gem in Ideas no one really pointed out, I’m calling it a rip-off.

I do like that it outputs vector, and you can import images for the background and sketch out an idea. But honestly, it should be something like half the price for it to be of real value.

I tried ideas about a year ago and I felt it was a useless app. Limited layers no vector control handles. I was really disappointed. Then I needed something to draw with on my iPad months later. Man I worked with it for a weekend. I now love this app. I keep discovering new features I want, and it makes my work better and more streamlined. I have done many drawing in it. I then import them into Illustrator and clean them up. Could it be better, absolutely but man do I love this program. We are so conditioned on price because of 99¢ aps. This app is easily worth $10. I Love it. Keep innovating and making it better Adobe.

I don’t think this app is worth $10 bucks, Ryan. I mean I can sketch on a pad snap a pic with my iPhone and send it to dropbox (or cloud) and get working on it. Like I did just last night. So, tomorrow I can eat lunch out.

I think the price of Adobe ideas is quite reasonable considering the cost of all their other products.

As for Jay’s comment I think I would rather pay the price of a couple of cups of coffee for a package that I can export directly to Illustrator as vectors rather than designing something then taking its picture then uploading it to drop box. That’s way to many steps for my liking.

I have seen some work done exclusively on the iPad with this package and they look amazing. I love the idea of being able to design when on the train or in the park with lots of inspiration and just having to carry my iPad about rather than a sketch book and pencils/pens.

I seem to get inspiration at the strangest times and this would really help the design process.

Thanks for the introduction to this app Ryan.
