niiice tutorial. I'm pretty new to illustrator but in the end it works almost like photoshop. but keeping the vectors, better.

I'm starting on illustrator, colorizing some drawings a have a while ago, and recording the process in video, just because. Here's one example: http://blog.nonlinear.cc/post/toughen-up/

as you can see, i spend a lot of time in trial-and-error.

I'll def use these tips on my next drawing, for sure. thanks!

However this is not design, this is teaching.

Anyone that duplicates tutorials for actual work will be laughed down by anyone with a clue(and by anyone without a clue if a client happened to stumble across the tut). Thus the outcome is irrelevant, the journey and possible knoweldge gained along the way are what this is all about.

Great tutorial Daniel.

It's amazing how many times the simple techniques are overlooked in illustrator.

Take notes people, you will be using clipping paths and opacity masks a lot if you use illustrator at all.

When you consider the purpose of the tutsplus.com design-series of websites is to provide well-written tutorials on how to execute creative, visually stunning, beautiful art well... that makes perfect sense doesn't it?

The tutorial may have been well-written, it may have offered insight into an oft-overlooked property of InDesign- but if in its execution it failed to offer a 'look' that said 'See why this is useful' then you may be right, people may have been less than impressed.

Such is the nature of design.
