We have another great Vector Premium tutorial available for Premium members today. If you want to learn how to create your own graphic identity, through the creation of your own geometric letters, ambigram mark, then this detailed tutorial is for you. The process involves using curves that are created by aligning a series of proportionately scaled circles. Their radii are determined by precisely angled lines and font weights are metrically specified. Simply put, nothing is left to chance!

There are different ways to create a font. Since I’m such a control freak in my work, I chose to do this through geometric construction. That means that nothing is roughly estimated by sight alone. Learn this geometric letter construction process.

    I don’t get how you went from step 11 to 12. Is there something missing? There are 2 extras circles that suddenly appear

      Yeah, I got confused there, too. On step 20, they show it for another circle, though.
      What I don’t understand is how to come up with these shapes when you’re not supposed to have this reference letter to begin with…
      Anyway, I find this an interesting tut, and wish there were more of those on developing typefaces.

    In steps 6-8, how are you supposed to know at what degree to turn the circle in order to place the point to intersect the second larger circle? How do you know that the two circles will form a smooth transition? Is it something you do just by chance and optically?
